Oscar Health has finally filed to go public. However, unlike most new listings, Oscar Health won't be raising funds by issuing new shares. Instead, they'll have their existing shares traded publicly on the NYSE. This is called a direct listing.

Oscar is the first health insurance company built around a full stack technology platform and a relentless focus on serving our members.

In a direct listing, also known as a direct placement, there are no intermediaries (i.e. investment banks) involved in the process to underwrite the offering; the trading price of Oscar Health shares will be defined by the market's risk appetite.

The trick here is to use a brokerage that will instantly list the symbol (ticker) of the company as soon as the trading starts on the NYSE. This is especially important if you’re a trader (not a buy&hold investor) and want to flip the stock for a profit.

IPOs are risky investments. If you want to invest in one, make sure you are well-informed.
