As more and more traders and investors use their smartphones for trading, it is increasingly important that brokers offer easy-to-use apps that provide the same services as desktop platforms.
In this article, we'll tell you whether tastyworks's mobile app ticks all the right boxes. Overall, we rate the user-friendliness of the app as better than average.
tastyworks' app is well organized but feels complicated and it lacks price alerts.
The main checklist for the tastyworks mobile app
Let's start with the search functions. Although most brokers do OK in this area, there are some bad apples out there. For example, if you start typing 'Emerging markets', will the software find all the Emerging markets ETFs for you, even if their name doesn't start with 'emerging'? If you only ever traded US stocks and start typing 'Apple', will the AI show you the Apple stock or the obscure Irish stock Applegreen?
Verdict: tastyworks could improve in this area, but the search functionality is OK for general use.
|Mobile search function||Mid-range||Poor||Mid-range|
|Mobile two-step authentication||Yes||No||Yes|
|Mobile biometric authentication||Yes||No||Yes|
|Mobile price alerts||No||No||Yes|
|Mobile order confirmation||Yes||Yes||Yes|
You cannot set price alerts in the tastyworks app. You can use a third-party app for this, but wouldn't it be much easier to have it in the broker's own app?
The tastyworks mobile app is very similar to the web platform and features its major functions. Overall, we rate the user-friendliness of the app as better than average. The app is available in English for both iOS and Android. We tested it on iOS.
Trading platform look and feel
The tastyworks app is user-friendly and has a neat and modern design.
Login and security
The tastyworks app provides two-step authentication for the same features as the web trading platform, giving an added layer of security.
You can also log in using biometric authentication.
The platform's search functions are OK. Similarly to the web platform, you can search based on the ticker of the asset you're looking for, but you cannot use filters for asset types.
The trading function is a bit different from the web platform or the desktop platform but it is intuitive. You can choose among table, curve, or stock modes. This makes stock trading easier to manage.
You can select the same order types and terms as on the web platform.
Alerts and notifications
You cannot set price alerts and order notifications on the tastyworks mobile platform. This is a major drawback.
