Step-by-step guide to buy Bitcoin on eToro

Buying and selling Bitcoin on eToro is as simple as investing in a stock. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Open an account with eToro or log in to the platform if you already have an account.
  2. Go to the cryptocurrency page (Discover --> Crypto) and select Bitcoin or use the search bar to search for Bitcoin (BTC). You will see it as the first result, as well as a 'Trade' button next to it.
Search for Bitcoin from your eToro account
  3. If you click on the entire list item, you will be taken to an information page with asset details on Bitcoin (see screenshot below). If you click on the 'Trade' button, you will land on the order panel for Bitcoin (see next step). It may be slightly confusing, but on the Bitcoin asset page, clicking on 'Invest' will take you to the same order panel.

  4. On the order panel for Bitcoin, you will have two options on the top right: Trade or Order
     - Trade: buy a specified amount of Bitcoin at the current price.
     - Order: set a BTC price target and number of coins to purchase. Your order is executed once the price hits your target.
For this guide, we selected Trade.

  5. Select how much you want to invest. You can switch between 'Amount' and 'Units' by clicking the button on the right:
     - Amount: set the USD amount you want to buy Bitcoin for. You can either write in the exact amount, or use the +/- buttons to set an amount. The minimum is $10. If you want to buy less, you will be reminded that this is the minimum. You also need to have cash on your account - if you don't, you will be prompted to deposit the required amount.
Select amount of Bitcoin to buy - note $10 minimum requirement
     - Units: you can select how many Bitcoins you want to buy. At eToro , you can purchase Bitcoin fractionally, so you don’t need to buy a full Bitcoin to own some. For example, you can buy just 0.1 or even 0.04 Bitcoin. Here too you will be prompted to deposit the required amount.
Select number of Bitcoin units to buy
  6. Once you selected the amount you’d like to buy, hit the large blue button below which, depending on your order, may say 'Open Trade' or 'Deposit Now'. The system will only accept your order if you already have an approved profile, meaning that you have provided eToro with proof of your identity and address.
  7. If you don't have any or enough cash on your account, you will be taken to the Deposit panel and asked to fund your account. Select your deposit method and execute the transaction to deposit the necessary funds.
